The Nocturni, a race of superhuman, immortal vampire-like people, have existed for 2000 years, if not longer. This is their story.

The Library of the Nocturni

Their origins are unknown. Some believe that they originated in the Roman province of Dacia, long before Rome herself conquered it. They are Sarmatian peoples, evolving from Dacians, Sarmatians, Scythians, and eventually into the present day Romanians.

When Emperor Trajan (the second of the ’Good’ Emperors of Rome, beginning with Nerva and ending with Marcus Aurelius) conquered Dacia in 104 AD, Rome conscripted the warrior races into her army. Rome wanted more people who were loyal and eventually subservient to her. But, eith the fall of the Empire, Rome no longer needed Dacian men, and eventually, Rome withdrew from Dacia, leaving the warrior races to their own devices. 

Rome’s conscription of the warrior races had spread the Nocturni across the Empire. There were males as far east as the Persian Empire, as far south as the Lower Egyptian Kingdom, and as far west as Britain.

The Nocturni needed blood to survive. And thus, they evolved with the times. Men scattered, taking to different continents as the centuries wore on. In the 15th century, one man chose to stay in the mountains. His name was Vlad Dracula or, as history remembers him, Vlad the Impaler, for his countless atrocities of impaling his enemies. This was the first evolution of the ‘vampire’ a seperate entity, but the same basic structure of the Nocturni race. A man who did not find his lifemate would turn to the animalistic demon inside himself and wreck havoc on the world, only to have to be killed by the hunters of the Nocturni Race.

Lifemates were a huge part of the continum of the Nocturni Race. Women had become scarce. The women that were alive were already taken. Children that were born of the women rarely survived past their infancy due to disease and the constant attack of vampire ‘slayers’. Vampire ‘slayers’ began to pop up in Europe during the Dark Ages, shortly after Dracula’s reign of terror. The swept a bloody path across Europe, hunting and killing Nocturni and vampire’s alike. Very rarely, a Nocturni male would find his lifemate in a human woman with special abilities to heal and see the future. He could convert her into a Nocturni and find happiness in his lonely existance. But there were a few men who did not find their lifemates. Life became something of a trial for them, and, instead of going into the sunlight as the law decreed, these men went into themselves, turning into a vampire, embracing the inner lust for blood and the pleasure of the kill.

Now, these men who turned into themselves and became an animal, they looked like normal people. They could be mistaken for someone of the Nocturni race. But they were not. Only the Nocturni race could tell them apart. Inside the vampire beat the heart of a demon, killable by decapitation, stake through the heart, and direct sunlight.

This caused the furthur adaptation and evolution of the Nocturni race. They became secretive, primarily residing in America, Europe and parts of Australia, Peru, Central America and a few other places. The vampires tended to go all over the world, seeking to have their head of operations where they once lived as a Nocturni. The vampires had one mission: to rule the humans and the world, letting evil reign. The Nocturni were to prevent this, thus the created the Hunters, an elite few that were to hunt the vampire and destroy them, lessing the hold of evil over the world.

Camden Miklos:

Camden Miklos, the Record Keeper of the Nocturni People. He was born in the year 1AD. His blue-green eyes contrast nicely with his dark hair.

Camden was the son of a mortal woman, Anya, and a Nocturni male, Tepes. Though his mother was a mortal woman, the blood of the Nocturni from his father was enough to convert Camden. Thus he grew up, immortal, hitting the age of thirty and perserved his looks for his long life.

Camden, as the current century shows, is a handsome man. He wears glasses. He has a necklace that he never takes off, a sort of circle with a triangle in the center. Camden favors turtle necks, because the library is in the heart of the Carpathian Mountains. He wears dark pants, mostly jeans, but often slacks.

Camden rarely leaves the library. About six months every three years, if that. His death without a suitable heir to take over the record keeping could leave the library unprotected and vulnerable to vampires and humans alike. Camden knows this, and is fully prepared to name his heir. Camden is skilled in weaponry, sword fighting, fighting with a lance, and battle tactics. He is fully aware that the library is not so well hidden from the people who know the way through the deepest parts of the Carpathian forests around it. Many a person has tried to find it, and only few have succeeded. The Leader of the Nocturni race, Lucian, and Evangeline Dimitrios are two of those few.

Oh, and before I go on, I really have to thank everyone who has helped me in the last few days. Sean, dear, for your support, no matter what I do that is nuts and crazy. On to Damien and Dimitri, yeah?

Damien, the tall blonde haired, dark eyed man. He loves swords, wears a long black leather jacket and has a superiority complex that will one day drive his lifemate bat shit loco. So here comes the hardest part about Damien. He looks a lot like the late Heath Ledger.

Dimitri, on the other hand, is totally opposite Damien. Dimitri is dark, buff, and he broods too much. Dimitri is tall, has dark eyes, curly hair, and a wide mouth. He’s got this ‘screw the world’ attitude that will surely make his lifemate hate him, but make her want to redeem him at the same time. Dimitri is the lost twin. And, he is most definately Rufus Sewell.

Now that we have them both out on paper, or rather, on the blog, maybe I can start getting on with finding them a last name.

Isn’t he dreamy? Camden Miklos, the geeky Greek record keeper of the Nocturni race. Please note that the picture above is only an example of what Camden looks like, not who he actually is. Many of you will recognize Anthony Stewart Head (Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as my inspiration for Camden.

And then we have Evangeline Dimitrios:

She’s beautiful, no? Kate Beckinsale is the inspiration for Evangeline Dimitrios. Kate has those haunting looks that make Evangeline the tragic beauty. Channeling that will be a challenge. She has a few flaws too! She’s a bit arrogant, and has violent tendancies. She’s broken a few laws, doesn’t use weapons, uses her own hands to give death, and has a tattoo.

Now what do you think of those two? Perfect for each other or what?

Of course I don’t have a title for this one yet. I’m still thinking on that one.

I’ve had a few people ask me what made my Vampire race different from the rest of the Vampire races out there.

There is no easy way to explain it. The most noticeable difference is that instead of individual vampires living on their own, the Nocturni live in bloodlines. They have heads of the bloodlines.

I’ve created a list of traits that my race has.

1. Does not need oxygen, but can appear to breathe if needed too.
2. Pale in appearance, but not too pale.
3. Unusually cool to the touch.
4. Can shape-shift into animals, into a mist.
5. Can float and/or fly.
6. Cannot have a reflection.
7. Does have a soul.
8. Cannot be photographed.
9. Powers are limited during the day. Cannot be in the sunlight, will burn horribly.
10. Can enter a house without an invitation.
11. Can cross and go into bodies of water without aversion.
12. The native soil of the Nocturni homeland has a healing agent that will speed healing, and is preferred to other soils, but it not necessary.
13. Cannot gain nourishment from food, and eating food can cause them become very uncomfortable.
14. Has no aversion to anything (garlic/wild rose branches, crosses, holy water, rosaries or other religious icons) harmful to traditional vampires.
15. Can be killed, but has the ability to save themselves if needed and they are severely hurt (has the ability to appear dead by shutting down their entire body).
16. Does not suffer from OCD.
17. Can be clean/bathed/clothed upon the thought of it.
18. Moves faster than the speed of light.
19. Maintaining the appearance of being human in front of people takes it’s toll on them.
20. Can read and change/implant memories.
21. Has one major residence in the mountains, where all the bloodlines meet and live/are stationed, with caves full of the Nocturni homeland soil.

So, you see? There is no simple answer to this question. There is an entire conglameration of things and traditions taken from various legends, books, TV Shows, and even my own imagination.

Well, hello!

I’m Jennifer Talos, but you can call me Jen.

First off, many of you may ask about the reason I am doing this blog. Well, quite simply, The Nocturni vampires are a race, and they are to vast and extensive to be written about in just one or two books. Thus, The Nocturni blog was born. One day, I hope it will become a website, but for now, this is the home of the Nocturni Vampires.

 A little more about me:

I write romance books in various genres as Jennifer Talos. I am currently working on various projects at the moment. I like to write romance, mostly, but I’m not afraid to write a thriller now and again. A romantic thriller, mind you. I crave the romance. I write from a various set of time frames as well. From ancient times such as Ancient Rome or Egypt to the modern life in small town Ephrata, Washington, where I am from.

I am a firm believer in love at first sight and the romantic aspect of all things. I need the romance in my life. With all of the things going on in the world, I truly believe that we, as writers, need to give people a chance to escape from the real world and into a dreamland where men are chivalrous and women can fight with a sword (think Kiera Knightley as Elizabeth Swann in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. She went from Damsel in Distress to Amazon in one movie).

The most romantic part of my life was meeting Sean, my boyfriend. Flew to El Paso, Texas in January of 2007 to meet him for the first time since meeting him in October of 2006. We’d only been dating a month, but talked every night on the phone, and damn, it was love. The way it felt, the way it moved. Damn. Just remembering it now; it makes me smile just thinking about it. That was a good time. The flight sucked though. Flew from Seattle to Salt Lake City, then from Salt Lake City to Atlanta, and then the next morning, I flew to El Paso. Kind of screwy, huh?

I want to give my readers something that they will remember for years. A book that they can come back and read a million times and not get tired of seeing the same old faces over and over again.

It is here that I offer up to you, the reader, my works to read, enjoy and mull over to your hearts content. I work a part time job at Wal*Mart which is 30 plus hours a week, I go to school full time at 40 plus hours a week, and I write all the time.

Those that know of me in the fanfiction community know of my unswerving dedication to telling tales of love or rewriting something to fit my needs or what I wanted to see happen. I just hope you’ll see it, too.
